Whether it is on or off the court, Evergreen Park’s Grace Kole likes to be spontaneous and is open to new adventures.
“I like to step out of my comfort zone and I like to have fun,” she said.
Kole’s double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds helped carry Evergreen Park to a 59-22 road win over Argo on Jan. 31.
This is Kole’s second full season at the varsity level; she was originally brought up to varsity during her freshman season.
“Last year, I was not as strong and did not get as many rebounds,” Kole said. “I am really locked in and know what I have to do and that is what I am executing.”
First-year Evergreen Park coach George Shimko has enjoyed coaching the junior forward.
“She’s grown so much during this year,” Shimko said. “She allows herself to be coachable.”
Kole’s rebounding has helped the Mustangs score more second-chance points. In the win over the Argonauts, 14 of her 20 points came after grabbing an offensive rebound.
Kole likes the mix for the Mustangs (15-10, 5-4 South Suburban Red).
“I feel like this group has everything we need,” Kole said. “We have the size, the strength, the talent. And when we put that all together as a team we do really good.”
“We are led by our seniors,” Shimko said. “They really set the tone for what we want to get done. If they want to be a great player, they have to do something to make their teammates better.”
Seniors Trinity Jones and Kyziah Lewis were among the contributors against Argo.
Jones had eight points, six rebound and two steals ,while Lewis had a near-double-double finishing with nine rebounds, eight points, an assist and a steal.
Another junior, guard Tatum Harris, finished with 14 points.
