Palos Hills tweens and teens sang their hearts out for karaoke night at a neighborhood coffee house.

Green Hills Library invited all tweens and teens for a karaoke night at Strange Brew Cafe on West 103rd Street and 87th Street on Feb. 22.

Organized by Green Hill Library Youth Program Coordinator Krisa Sumner, the karaoke party aimed to bring tweens/teens together in a safe environment to explore and express their interests.

“Green Hills Library is wonderful about developing programs and events for all ages to utilize our resources and be involved in the community with their interests,” said Sumner.

The program invited tweens and teens ages 10 through 12 for a night of expression and song.

Coincidentally, karaoke became a Hamilton-themed girl’s night for tweens Jenean, Joureen, Penelope, and Sophia, avidly involved tween Green Hill Library members.

Sumner, a Hamilton fan herself, said, “The girls have been choosing tracks from Hamilton, I’m not mad at that.”

Sophia, 10, belted out one of the musical hits of “Dear Theodosia” and said, “That was kinda hard with the big words to pronounce but I love this event because you get to sing Hamilton!”

Grinning from ear to ear, Sophia shared, “Our babysitter got us into the musical; it’s so emotional and raw.”

Tween member Jenean loved the unintentional Alexander Hamilton karaoke theme, “I love the way they made history so entertaining, and the beautiful choreography and music.”

Jenean, also a regular to Green Hills Library, voiced how appreciative she was of the programs. “I made so many friends at the last library event by just playing with other people I wouldn’t have maybe before; it was so cool.”

Recognizing the importance of utilizing library program services and resources, Sumner added, “I sincerely hope people take advantage of our library initiatives within the community, kids, teens, and adults; we are a resource hub of interests and programs designated for each.”
