Joseph J. Fleider Jr., 90

Joseph J. Fleider Jr., affectionately known as “Moose” and “Big Joe,” died at the age of 90. A resident of Palos Hills, Illinois, he was a proud U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Korean War.

He was the beloved husband of Marguerite “Peggy” (née Volkmann) and a devoted father to Deann Smith, Susan Dineen, and Richard Fleider (Angela). He was a proud grandfather to Jennifer and Matthew Smith and Maxwell Fleider.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Rose Fleider (Kachnowski), as well as his siblings, Richard (Marie) Wenderski, Francis Plotke, and Genevieve White Manor. He was a dear uncle to many nieces and nephews and a cherished friend to many.

A dedicated member of the Marrs Meyer American Legion Post 0991 in Worth, Illinois, Joseph found great pride in his military service and community involvement.

Family and friends gathered for visitation on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Palos-Gaidas Funeral Home in Palos Hills. A funeral service was held on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 10 a.m., followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery.

Joseph will be remembered for his kindness, loyalty, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and country.
