A Flossmoor man was charged Monday with burglarizing a Shell gas station in Palos Heights earlier this month.

Police said the Shell station in the 12100 block of Ridgeland Avenue was burglarized on January 8. Managers said that a man entered the station by prying open a locked storage area and took an estimated 17 cartons of cigarettes valued at about $2,600.

Palos Heights police were able to identify the suspect’s vehicle as it left the parking lot by using Shell video footage and Flock license plate readers. Shell employees also identified the suspect through a photo lineup.

Police said they learned the suspect had been hired by an outside temp agency to complete work at Shell gas stations in the area.

Police said the suspect, Detron L. Williams, 49, of Flossmoor, turned himself in on Monday, January 27.

Williams was charged with one count of burglary and released pending a court date on Tuesday, January 28, at the Bridgeview Courthouse.
