A man found asleep behind the wheel in a Southwest Side alley was charged with driving under the influence and other offenses after police discovered a gun in his vehicle.
Hugo Ernesto Chavez, 26, of the 4500 block of South Christiana Avenue, was found slumped over the steering wheel with his car blocking access to an alley in the 6000 block of South Central Avenue around 4:45 a.m. on Jan. 14, police said.
Officers determined he was under the influence of alcohol and found a handgun inside the vehicle, leading to a charge of carrying a concealed firearm while intoxicated. Chavez was also cited for parking in an alley and failing to carry his driver’s license.
