During the first two weeks of January, Oak Lawn police stopped multiple drivers for traffic violations, many involving expired license plates, broken taillights, and missing plate lights.
Several of those drivers also faced additional charges, including driving with suspended or revoked licenses, lack of insurance and illegal possession of an unsealed bag of cannabis.
Among those cited for registration and lighting violations:
- Hamid Benhalima, of Madison, Wis., was stopped at 2:57 a.m. on Jan. 3 in the 8800 block of South Central Avenue for driving with expired registration. Police also cited him for aggravated speeding, alleging he was driving 64 mph in a 35-mph zone. He is due in court on Feb. 7.
- Hector E. Gil-Morillo, of Chicago, was pulled over at 12:53 a.m. on Jan. 7 in the 10500 block of South Cicero Avenue. Police said his rear license plate light was out, and he was also charged with driving without a valid license. He has a court date set for March 7.
- Eric M. Hayden, of Champaign, was stopped at 2:11 a.m. on Jan. 11 in the 4000 block of West 91st Place. Police cited him for a missing rear registration plate light and charged him with driving on a suspended license. He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb.
In addition to missing plate lights, officers cited several drivers for expired or suspended registrations:
- Yvonne Johnson, of Chicago, was stopped at 10:26 a.m. on Jan. 10 in the 4400 block of West 103rd Street. Police cited her for expired and suspended registration and no insurance. She was also charged with driving on a suspended license. Her court date is Feb. 25.
- Muhammad M. Jackson, of Evergreen Park, was stopped at 2 a.m. on Jan. 11 in the 3700 block of West 95th Street. Police cited him for expired and suspended registration, no insurance, and illegal possession of an unsealed bag of cannabis. He also faces a charge of driving on a suspended license. His court date is Feb. 7.
- Hani Z. Rabah, of Oak Lawn, was stopped at 6:44 p.m. on Jan. 9 in the 9100 block of South Ridgeland Avenue. Police cited him for having an illegal registration plate cover, driving without headlights, and no insurance. He was also charged with driving on a revoked license. He is due in court on Feb. 19.
