The Palos Hills City Council discussed new businesses, crime reports, and proposed changes to city regulations when it met last week.
Three new businesses have recently opened, Ald. Donna O’Connell announced.
Insured Rate Insurance Agency is now operating on 111th Street, open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Minuteman Press, formerly Park Printing, is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
White Sheet Café has also opened at Moraine Valley College, serving customers Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Crime reports remained relatively low to close out 2024, according to Ald. Marty Kleefisch’s presentation of the December Police Activity Report.
Officers issued 278 traffic citations and 100 parking tickets during the month. While no felonies, homicides, rapes, or robberies were reported, police responded to 21 misdemeanor complaints, one aggravated assault, five burglaries, two thefts, and two vehicle thefts. The Criminal Investigation Division handled 19 cases.
With winter weather in full swing, mailbox regulations were a focus of discussion. Ald. Phil Abed introduced two proposals — one updating construction standards to meet city requirements and another adjusting permit fees.
The council also considered how to fairly handle existing mailboxes. A final decision will be made at a later meeting.
In other business, the council approved $390,836.80 in city expenditures. Meanwhile, work is ongoing at the city golf course as preparations continue for its reopening in the spring.
The next city council meeting is scheduled for Feb. 6.
