A Chicago woman has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing two people and stealing a car in the 5100 block of South Rutherford Avenue at about 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9.
Vanessa Delgado, 21, of the 6900 block of West 64th Place, was charged with two felony counts of attempted murder, two felony counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, one felony count of vehicular hijacking, and two counts of aggravated battery with bodily harm.
Delgado was arrested about 30 minutes after the incident in the 5100 block of South Mulligan, police said,
According to a report supplied by CPD News Affairs, a 41-year-old woman was walking to her Nissan Rogue when Delgado approached and stabbed her with a sharp object and drove off in her vehicle.
The victim, who neighbors described as a schoolteacher on her way to work, suffered stab wounds to the chest and bicep and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition.
Police said in the report that shortly after that incident, the suspect crashed the SUV into an unoccupied parked vehicle in the 5100 block of South Mulligan Avenue, where she was apprehended.
When a 30-year-old man heard the collision and approached the scene, Delgado allegedly got out of the vehicle with the sharp object and stabbed him in the back. He was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition.
Delgado was transported to Holy Cross Hospital with minor injuries from the traffic crash.
She was ordered to be detained at Cook County Jail. Her next scheduled court date was January 14.
