An Orland Park man has been charged with the Jan. 5 shooting of a man in Brookfield.
Isaiah Montanez, 22, of Orland Park, turned himself in on Jan. 9 and was charged with one felony count of aggravated battery with a firearm, a Class X felony.
Brookfield police said they responded to a call of shots fired at 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 5 in the 4600 block of Custer Avenue.
Responding officers found a 24-year-old man had been shot multiple times. Officers performed immediate medical aid, including applying a tourniquet, until Brookfield paramedics arrived and administered additional medical care onsite before transporting the victim to a hospital for further treatment.
The victim remains hospitalized and is expected to recover.
Montanez was identified as the ex-boyfriend of a Brookfield resident on the block. He allegedly fired a handgun at the victim (the ex-girlfriend’s brother) following a confrontation outside her residence.
Police said Montanez fled on foot into Lyons and subsequently fled the area while officers conducted an exhaustive search.
Brookfield detectives, assisted by investigators from the suburban Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT), investigated the shooting and identified Montanez as the alleged shooter. On Jan. 9, a Cook County judge signed a warrant for his arrest.
Montanez turned himself in to Brookfield police later on Jan. 9. At a hearing Jan. 10 at the Maywood Courthouse, a Cook County judge ordered Montanez held without bond at Cook County Jail. His next scheduled court date is Jan. 24 at the Maywood Courthouse.
