Joe Lopez has labored for 35 years for the Village of Stickney and he was honored in advance of his retirement on Dec. 31.

Mayor Jeff Walik and trustees honored Lopez, the supervisor of the public works and water departments, at their Dec. 17 village board meeting.

Walik presented Lopez with a plaque and read a proclamation acknowledging his decades of service.

“Joe Lopez currently serves as the director of public works for the Village of Stickney and has a long and distinguished history of service to the village,” Walik said. “He was hired by the Stickney Fire Department in 1988 and promoted to lieutenant in 2001. Joe retired from the fire department in 2017 and became the full-time director of public works. Under his leadership, the public works department has improved streets, parks, and infrastructure while enhancing the appearance and operations of the village. Joe also regularly cooks for the village’s community events, demonstrating his dedication to its residents.”

The proclamation described Lopez as “an asset to the Village of Stickney as a leader, colleague, and friend” who has devoted his career to serving its residents.”

The meeting also included a video highlighting Lopez’s contributions over the years.

“Joe is a great man, leader, director, and friend,” Walik said. “I thank him for his 35 years of dedicated service to all residents, kids, and seniors. He did it all.”

No replacement has been named.
