Daniel T. Dacanay, a lieutenant with the Chicago Police Department and a distinguished Scoutmaster, died at home on Dec. 6, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was 57.
A resident of Chicago’s Garfield Ridge neighborhood, Dacanay was remembered for his dedication to his family, profession, and community.
Born on June 17, 1967, he was the husband of Karen Robertson and the father of Samual and Kaitlin Dacanay. He was the son of the late Samuel Odisho and Mary McDonald.
Dacanay is survived by his siblings, Richard (Laura) Dacanay, Loretta Flores, Katherine Dacanay (John), Michael (Eileen) Dacanay, and James Dacanay; his in-laws, Allan and Vonda Flores; and many nieces and nephews.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and served as Scoutmaster for Troop 671 of St. Jane de Chantal Church, now St. Faustina Kowalska Parish.
Visitation was held Dec. 10 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Ave., Chicago. Additional visitation took place Dec. 11 from 9 a.m. until a Celebration of Life service at 10:30 a.m. Burial followed at Resurrection Cemetery.
