Elizabeth A. “Betty” Knickrehm, 93, of Peotone, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 4, 1931, in Chicago, she was the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Besowshek) Rittmanic. She married Dale Robert Joseph Knickrehm on February 3, 1951, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley. He passed away on November 27, 2017.

Betty worked as a full-time mom to five children and many others in the neighborhood. She provided food for any who entered under her roof and many others in the church and community as needs arose. She was a dental assistant, transcriptionist, bookkeeper, Registered Nurse, teacher in the nursing lab, and preceptor. She was a gardener, seamstress, painter, musician – playing the piano and violin, a cook, a baker, and a friend. She was active in the CCW, a lector, an extraordinary Eucharistic Minister, and attended Mass daily. She worked long hours to fill the needs of others, whether it was baking and cooking or sewing wedding and bridesmaids’ dresses. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved serving others, and it was evident she loved our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

She is survived by her children, Stephen (Renee) Knickrehm, Ronald (Gail) Knickrehm, Mary (Rich) Rogers, Cynthia (Timothy) Reed, and Elizabeth M. “Liz” (John) Meaney; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild on the way; two sisters, Patricia (the late Joe) Rittmanic, and Mary Frances (Jack) Cooper; a brother-in-law, Ed McMains; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother and sister-in-law, George and Ruth Rittmanic; a brother, James Rittmanic; a sister and brother-in-law, Marlene and Mike Setticasi; and a sister, Lenore McMains.

A Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, December 31, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Peotone, with Father Thomas Milota officiating. Private burial will be at All Saints Cemetery in Bourbonnais. Memorials for Masses, to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, or Helping Hands Food Pantry would be appreciated.
