Cook County Commissioner Frank Aguilar held his fourth annual Dia De Los Muertos Family Resource Fair on Saturday, Oct. 26, at his district office on Ogden Avenue in Lyons. This vibrant event, which featured 30 vendors, aimed at increasing access to health and family services for the local community.

Aguilar (D-16th) partnered with the Village of Lyons, Teamsters Local 777, and Rincon Family Services to bring a variety of resources to attendees. Community organizations such as Alivio Medical Center, Corazon Community Services, Mobile Care Chicago Dental, and Walgreens were on hand to provide valuable information on health screenings, vaccines, homecare, school services, homelessness, banking, and more.

Nicor contributed to the event by distributing Energy Efficiency bags to attendees that were Nicor customers, while Teamsters Local 777 offered coffee and popcorn, providing a welcoming space for vendors and visitors alike. Children and adults enjoyed face painting, adding to the festive atmosphere.

A standout feature of the fair was the beautifully displayed ofrenda, or altar, positioned at the front window of the office. This traditional altar, created for Dia de los Muertos—celebrated on Nov. 1 and 2—serves to welcome the spirits of departed loved ones. It included photos, favorite foods, beverages, sugar skulls, flowers, candles, and religious symbols, reflecting the rich cultural heritage associated with the holiday.

The fair not only celebrated the spirit of Dia de los Muertos but also reinforced the importance of community support and accessible resources for all families in the district.
