On Oct. 8, the Forest View village board meeting took a surprising turn when two key officials resigned during a portion of the meeting that was closed to the public.
Forest View Administrator Michael Dropka submitted his resignation to trustees who met behind closed doors to discuss an “employee personnel matter,” according to the meeting agenda. Public Works Superintendent Frank Filec also resigned at the same time.
Two days later, Dropka was hired by South Barrington trustees to serve as that village’s $165,000-a-year administrator, according to a published report.
“Over the past three and a half years, there has been an incredible amount accomplished. I thank the [Forest View] Mayor and the Board of Trustees for their guidance, support, and friendship over the years It has been a privilege and an honor working with all of them,” Dropka said.
Filec, a licensed plumber apprentice, was hired by Forest View in July 2022, according to his LinkedIn page.
When contacted by a reporter, Filec declined to say why he resigned from his post.
“I have been here for almost 2 1/2 years, and I’m proud of the work we got done in that time,” Filec said. “It was a privilege to work for the village. I’m confident that the public works department is moving in the right direction.”
Mayor Nancy Miller said she was “deeply saddened” by the pair of resignations.
“I feel that this is going to be a tremendous loss. I know that Mike put his heart and soul into this position and he is definitely leaving the village better than when he came in. He’s leaving the village set up for the next administrator to succeed. He’s left myself many detailed notes for the next person to carry on, since there are many projects and grants in the works,” Miller said.
“I wish both he and Frank the best of luck in their future endeavors, as they both did a great job for the village.”
