McCook residents will soon see crews sandblasting and repainting fire hydrants around the village
Mayor Terrance Carr, after the village board meeting on Tuesday night Sept. 3, confirmed that testing has been completed on the fire hydrants village-wide.
“We’re in the final steps. The flow testing was done. Everything turned out good. The leak testing was done. We had three leaks. We fixed them,” he said.
“So, next week they’re going to start painting them,” Carr said. “I wanted to get them leak-tested and flow-tested before doing that.”
Years of repainting the hydrants resulted in thick coats of paint on them, sometimes so thick it made simply opening some hydrants a challenge, village officials have said.
“Some (hydrants) will be red, some will be yellow,” Carr said of the new paint jobs.
Sandblasting and painting is expected to take about two weeks.
