We welcome August.

Our block has not missed what I refer to as the Peck School Parade, for pick up and dropping off students at 8:15 and 3:15. We did have a mini parade of little students for some summer programs. Those programs have now ended on 7/26. The Peck students will be back on Aug. 26th. So, our neighboring blocks have about 3 weeks to enjoy parking, and empty streets during the day and then it is right back at it.

The students of Sts. Bruno & Richard School will be starting a little earlier. Their first day is Wednesday, Aug. 21st beginning at 7:30 with a blessing from Father Andrew.

Our Archer Heights branch of Chicago Public Libraries are still hosting summer events. The next being the “Planet Circus Show by Pocket Circus.” This event will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10th at 2:00 p.m. Stop by to marvel at this two-person circus show that features a mix of acrobatics, juggling, magic, and a lot of audience participation. Music is featured highlighting the Argentinian tango.

On social media it was mentioned about some bent street signs in the West Elsdon community. A bent street sign is usually a sign of gang activity. Please, if you see a bent street sign a simple call to 311 is all that is needed to get it fixed.

“It’s Always Something,” “It is what it is,” “You can only do your best,” are some phrases that seem to be a part of all our lives when the going gets tough. The going got a little tough once again for our family when our dog, Oliver, suffered from a ruptured spleen and needed emergency surgery. So once again I say I have the best neighbors because they really came to support us with their calls and visits. Thank you – Juan, Maria, Cindy (Dempsy’s mom), Fred (Fin’s dad), Mr. & Mrs. Nany (Nany’s parents), Liz and Louis (Leo and Lexy’s parents) Maria on the next block, Jose the mechanic, Claudia, and the Poggis, to name a few.
