Andy’s Frozen Custard will open its first store in Chicago Friday morning in the Garfield Ridge community.
The store at 5446 S. Mulligan Ave. will hold its ribbon cutting and golden scoop ceremony at 11 a.m. followed by its grand opening from 11:30 to 4 p.m.
Guests will get to meet company owner and namesake Andy Kuntz, play games, win prizes including free frozen custard for a year, and be entertained by the Shannon Rovers Irish Pipe Band. There will be $2 sundaes available all day.
Additionally, the first 100 guests will receive a custom treat baked by Chicago’s-own Louie Lezza, owner of Lezza Spumoni & Desserts.
After weeks of voting by #FANdys, the exclusive Chicago treat name will also be revealed. Made with Andy’s Frozen Vanilla custard, raspberries and Magic Milk Chocolate, the regional treat will be available at all 17 Chicago locations.
Andy’s will be open from 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday.
The store is a former bank site at Archer and Mulligan.
The first Chicago-area Andy’s opened a decade ago in Oak Lawn. Other locations have since opened in Burbank, Countryside, La Grange Park, Orland Park and Palos Heights.
Another new Andy’s is under construction at Wolf Road and Lincoln Highway in Mokena.
