A variety of projects ranging from street repairs and a new pump station for the golf course have been approved for the Village of Worth.

A bid was awarded to Lindahl Brothers during the Worth Village Board meeting Tuesday night. Lindahl was the lowest bidder among four entries at $590,384.90 for future street repair projects.

The bid came under the projected budget of $700,000, which delighted members of the board.

Trustee Pete Kats, who is the head of the public safety committee, stated that 27 criminal arrests were made last month by the Worth Police Department.

He also noted that nine were arrested for having no driver’s license. Another 10 were incarcerated for driving with a suspended or revoked license, Kats said.

Trustee Brad Urban, who is the head of the public works committee, said that the National Pipeline will be in the village to resume disconnecting old gas mains and services. The project is beginning at 111th and Oak Park and at Oak Park and Lloyd Drive.

“Any areas that are disturbed by this work will be restored by Nicor contractors,” Urban said.

Urban noted that hydrant flushing will be completed by the end of the month. Hydrant painting will also resume this month.

Bacteriological samples for the month of June were taken and tested. All samples passed and are IEPA compliant, Urban said.

An annual appropriation ordinance for 2024-25 was approved. A motion to approve the certificate of revenues for the fiscal year of May 1, 2024, through April 30, 2025.

A request by Public Works Superintendent Ed Urban to purchase a 2023 F-250 4×4 Crew Cab in the amount of $49,980, minus the $31,163 from the insurance company for the vehicle, was granted.

Matt McDonald, general manager of Water’s Edge Golf Course, requested and was granted a new pump station for the 18-hole facility.

A long discussion took place over how communication with Robinson Engineering, which is responsible for construction work throughout the village, needs to improve.

Kats, who has been employed in construction, questioned why some projects take longer than expected and why communication with Urban does not always take place.

At the end of the meeting, a representative of Robinson Engineering said that this will no longer be tolerated and the working relationship with the village will improve.

“Our goal is to work with you and to be a partner,” the representative said. “It starts with communication.”

Golf course anniversary

Trustee Laura Packwood, who is the chair of the golf committee, wanted to remind residents and the board that the 25th anniversary celebration weekend will take place on Saturday, July 27, and Sunday, July 28, at the Water’s Edge Golf Course, 7205 W. 115th St.

On Saturday, July 27, an outdoor barbecue with ribs and chicken wings will be served. Included on that day will be outdoor games, golf games and prizes. Live music by The Prissillas will begin at 6 p.m.

On Sunday, July 28, a family cookout day and outdoor games for kids will be held. The day will include face painting, an ice cream truck, a bouncy house, and Dave Dinaso’s Traveling World of Reptiles at 3:30 p.m.

“This is open to everyone,” Packwood said.

The Village of Worth will be taking part in the annual National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug 6. Due to that event, the Worth Village Board meeting will be moved to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, at the Worth Village Hall, 7112 W. 11th St.
