Several area baseball, softball, boys volleyball and girls soccer teams were still alive in the postseason heading into this week.

Among those was two-time defending Class 3A champion Nazareth, which is competing in Class 4A this season. The Roadrunners, Brother Rice and Mount Carmel won regional titles. So did De La Salle, St. Laurence and St. Rita in Class 3A.

In softball, Class 4A defending state champ Marist was the only team that survived regionals. In Class 3A, St. Laurence, De La Salle, Nazareth and Evergreen Park won regional championships.

In boys volleyball, Marist, ranked second in the nation by the USA Today/American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, advanced to the Marist Sectional title match with a 25-22, 25-17 victory over Whitney Young on May 25. The RedHawks will face Jones — which defeated St. Rita in the semifinals — on May 28 for the right to play in the state quarterfinals.

Lyons defeated Brother Rice, 25-21, 25-19, to advance to the title match of the Sandburg Regional. The Lions will play Oak Park-River Forest in the title match.

In girls soccer, Lyons defeated York, 2-0, to win the Class 3A Hinsdale Central Sectional. The Lions will face New Trier on May 28 in the Oak Park-Rover Forest Supersectional.
