It’s time to bring out the Corona, Tecate, Modelo or Dos Equis, along with a few limes. Heck, maybe even bring out the Patrón! It is Cinco de Mayo this Sunday, translated to May 5. It marks the Mexican victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. But for me it marks time to enjoy a nice cold beer, especially if the weather cooperates.
We enjoyed a lovely Mexican lunch at a local restaurant with our neighbors, Juan and Maria, this past week. I thank them both for always taking care of us. Maria is also an excellent cook as well.
Congratulations to Father William Lego from St. Turibius Parish. Father Lego was honored on April 19 at the Midwest Augustinians 12th Annual Gala, held at the Drake Hotel.

The little princesses of Sts. Bruno & Richard School celebrated Ties and Tiaras. The young ladies danced away the evening with their fathers at the father/daughter dance.
Congratulations to the young folks who will be making their First Holy Communion this weekend. Both Sts. Bruno & Richard School and St. Turibius Religious Education will be making theirs’ on Saturday, May 4. I hope the sun will be shining for this special day.
Thank you to Mrs. Amanda Scampini, the STEM specialist from Peck School, for stopping by to chit chat with us this past week. It is always nice to have someone look in on us. Also, we will begin working on the Peck Panther Patch with Camilia, hopefully this weekend.
The end of May is fast approaching and thoughts turn to summer vacation. The seniors at Hubbard High School will graduate on May 24 with ceremonies held at Chicago State University. Seniors at Curie High School will graduate May 28 at the UIC Pavilion. Our young Sergio down the block, whom I will always think of as a young boy, will be graduating from Whitney Young on June 5. He is going on to college with the hopes of attending law school. I am so proud for him. I really hope that Olivia has a back yard party too!
Deacon Larry Chyba celebrated a birthday on May 1. Happy Belated wishes to him.
Happy Birthday to Sandra Ramirez on May 6.
