Irish music and storytelling filled the Worth Public Library Monday night as the community gathered for a special St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

The library, 6917 W. 111th St., hosted Georgia Moon, a local acoustic trio that performed songs by well-known Irish artists while sharing the history behind them. The band features Tom Quick, of Palos Park, on vocals and guitar, Jeanine Kelly, of Palos Heights, on vocals, and Pete Vancura, of Worth, on vocals, guitar, and bass.

“Songs have a way of bringing us back to certain times in our lives or the memories that we have made. Why not add a little bit of history to go along with the song?” Kelly said.

St. Patrick’s Day, observed on March 17, commemorates the death of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. Over the years, the holiday has evolved into a global celebration of Irish culture, marked by parades, special foods, music, dancing, and a sea of green decorations. The Worth Library event honored that tradition with performances of songs by Irish performers such as Van Morrison, Steve Earle, U2, The Cranberries, and Sinéad O’Connor.

“We sang songs by Irish performers and, in between each song, gave a little backstory or fun fact about the song or the artist,” Kelly said.

Following the concert, the celebration continued across the street at the Stadium Club, 6900 W. 111th St., where attendees at the 21 and older event enjoyed appetizers and participated in an Irish-themed trivia contest.

The band, Georgia Moon, formed within the past year, and Worth Public Library played a special role in their journey. Their first official performance took place at the library, making their return performance even more meaningful.

“We had so much fun singing and talking to the audience at our first event here,” Kelly said. “We were so happy to be asked back. We love singing, and I love doing the research behind the songs. It’s such a cool combination that Audrey put together.”

Since their debut, the band has grown with the addition of Vancura, whom Kelly described as a “talented musician” who brought depth to their sound. She also credited Quick for his expertise and influence on her as a vocalist.

“Tom is a perfectionist, and I, as a new singer, have learned so much from him,” she said. “He truly is a skilled guitarist, and he amazes me all the time with his art. I have only been singing for the last three years, and I am so lucky to be learning from the best.”

For Worth Library Programming Coordinator Audrey Dambek, the presentation was about bringing people together through shared experiences.

“Festivals and celebrations like St. Patrick’s Day provide opportunities for people to come together, share experiences, and strengthen community bonds,” Dambek said. “With such a diverse world, it’s important to share each other’s traditions. Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day.”

With music, history, and social gatherings, Worth Library’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration was an evening filled with lively entertainment, cultural appreciation, and community spirit.
