On Monday, February 10, the Lady Panthers came out like gangbusters against the Coalers, with both teams starting the game with 12-1 records in the Illinois Central Eight Conference.
The only loss the Panthers had in conference play was at the hands of the Coalers in January, and the Panthers certainly had that on their minds. Manteno led in the first half, but the second half was different as the Coalers fought back, but it was not enough, enabling the Panthers to take the win 53-40, as well as the conference championship.
The Panthers were led by Bella Gigliello and Emily Horath both with 12 points, followed by Maddie Gesky with 11 points.
At the end of the game, the Panthers had their first Illinois Central Eight Conference Championship since 1990. Coach Bethany Stritar said the team needs to keep the momentum going on this historic season. The Panthers are 23-4 overall and 13-1 in conference play. Go, Panthers!!
