Visitors to the McCook Village Board meeting Monday night were greeted by the latest addition to the public works department.
Parked in front of the main entrance – its lights flashing – was a white 2024 Ford F750 dump truck with a bright red snowplow affixed to the front.
An American flag is prominently featured on each side of the truck. So is the name of McCook Mayor Terrance Carr.
The truck cost $145,000 and was purchased from Ricart Properties based in Groveport, Ohio. Village staff picked it up recently in Indianapolis.
During the board meeting, Public Works Supt. Steve Perrin told trustees “thanks again for the new truck.”
The board approved the purchase on Jan. 6.
Asked after the meeting if he liked the truck, Perrin said, “I haven’t been in it yet.”
He does like the color and design and that it is brand-new: “It’s really nice.”
“I hope to use it soon. But I don’t really want to use it because that means it snowed,” Perrin added with a smile.
Besides plowing snow, the truck will be used for salting streets in the winter, and carrying dirt and stone for various projects throughout the year, Perrin said.
In other business, the board approved paying $950 for Police Chief Jeremy Carr and Deputy Chief Dave DeLeshe to attend the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System conference in Springfield from March 30 to April 1.
“That’s who manages mutual aid. It’s their annual meeting. We’ve been there the last couple of years. Good speakers. Lots of information shared and some decent training,” DeLeshe said.
The board approved a three-year contract with Verity Trusted IT Solutions to support tech at The MAX. Verity will be paid $6,168 annually, Carr said.
An additional $1,500 covers a block of 10 hours for remote IT service if needed, Carr said.
“It’s a company we’ve used for five or six years,” he said.
And the board approved a planned maintenance agreement for the generator at The MAX. Cummins Inc. will be paid $2,565 annually over the three-year deal.
The board’s next meeting will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18. The village board usually meets on Mondays, but the village hall will be closed Feb. 17 for Presidents Day.
