Palos Park Mayor Nicole Milovich-Walter called a portion of the Jan. 27 village council meeting “the fun stuff” when she and Commissioner Dan Polk were able to do some bragging and make presentations to the Community Emergency Response Team and some of the police officers on the Palos Park force.
President’s Volunteer Service Awards were presented to CERT members Cynthia Chibe, Joanne Spyridakos and Lisa Petrelli for putting in more than 100 service hours.
“America has a long and proud tradition of volunteer service,” the mayor said. “The President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizes the valuable contributions volunteers make in our communities and encourages more people to serve.
“The award honors this American tradition and thanks those who inspire others to engage in volunteer service, demonstrated commitment and example.”

She added the award is given out to individuals, families and groups who achieve a number of service hours within a 12-month period.
Police Sergeant Ross Chibe and officers Bob Kotsianis, James Van Howe and Cohen Piechocinski were lauded for their role in what Polk called “a rather extraordinary event that occurred in [Palos Park].”
The local police were involved in a carjacking and kidnapping incident that started on Dec. 17 in the village.
Polk called it “exceptional police work.”
