Three weeks after a New Year’s Day mass shooting left two people dead, Kankakee Police Chief Chris Kidwell told aldermen gathered for the Tuesday, January 21, City Council meeting, that he still is looking to obtain critical eyewitness evidence. That evidence could lead to an arrest or arrests in connection with the incident that left five people wounded in addition to those who were killed by gunfire. Kidwell also said investigators have yet to establish a motive.
In other Kankakee news, a groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday, January 22, for the East Riverwalk project at the corner of River Street and South Schuyler Avenue. With construction work now underway, Mayor Chris Curtis said he hopes the construction will be completed before the end of November this year.
