Retail Theft – January 4: On January 4, Peotone Police responded to a retail theft report at the Peotone Travel Center. According to the investigation, multiple suspects wearing masks and gloves entered the business through the main entrance. One suspect approached a lottery display case, removed it, and exited the store. The suspect was described as wearing a green winter hat, green puffy jacket, gloves, and dark pants. All suspects fled the scene in a silver/grey Lincoln SUV.
Officers shared the suspect and vehicle details with the Illinois State Police for dissemination to nearby agencies. Peotone Police Investigations actively is working with the Illinois Lottery Commission to pursue leads in the case.
Traffic Safety Enforcement – Christmas/New Year’s IDOT Grant: Peotone officers conducted enhanced traffic safety enforcement as part of an Illinois Department of Transportation grant from December 13, 2024, to January 2, 2025. These efforts targeted impaired driving and occupant protection violations.
In that time period, 47 citations were issued, 58 total contacts were made, 1 arrest for driving under the influence was made, and 28 tickets were issued for failure to wear seatbelts. The next enforcement detail is scheduled for March 7–18.
