
Frank R. Burens, a devoted lieutenant of the Chicago Fire Department’s Hazmat Unit, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 27, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was 68.

Known for his unwavering commitment to public service, he served with distinction in the specialized Hazmat Unit, addressing critical emergencies with expertise and courage.
He was the beloved husband of Rebecca Savage and a devoted father to Reid and Mira Burens. Family was at the heart of Mr. Burens’ life, and he cherished moments shared with his children and his extended family. He was a dear brother to Laura (Rob) Doetkott and a cherished brother-in-law to Michael (Nancy) Savage, Susan (Mike, C.F.D.) Shrader, and Mary Beth (Jack) Burns. His many nieces and nephews will remember him with love and fondness.
A memorial Mass in celebration of Frank’s life will be held at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at St. Cletus Church. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring his legacy of service, love, and dedication.
