
During the Hickory Hills October 24 meeting, the City Council approved a St. Patricia Polish Festival liquor license, scheduled for Saturday, November 9, 2024. The event will be held at St. Patricia’s Parish Center, 9050 S. 86th Ave., celebrating Polish heritage with traditional food, music, and dancing.
Mayor Mike Howley initiated the motion for license approval, with Aldermen Mike McHugh and Debbie Ferrero seconding. The annual event, organized by St. Patricia Church, has been a tradition in Hickory Hills for over 30 years, drawing locals and residents to appreciate Polish culture. Festivalgoers can look forward to the many Polish food staples, including pierogies, sauerkraut, Polish sausage, and other favorites, as well as live entertainment and music by the Chicagoland Eddie Korosa Jr. Polka Band, a cash bar, a beer garden, and a selection of wine by the glass or bottle.
City Clerk Joe Stachnik has announced the upcoming Veterans Day Flag Presentation, a community event set for Thursday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m. The ceremony, which will take place in the parking lot adjacent to City Hall, this year’s theme, ‘A Legacy of Loyalty and Service,’ chosen by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, reflects the ongoing commitment of our veterans to our nation.
The head of the Public Works Department, Sue Lehr, has confirmed that the city’s street program proposal for 2025 has been submitted to Robinson Engineering for a resurfacing project. This project will involve investigating the existing conditions for next year. Lehr stated, “Using the cost per square yard that Robinson supplied for this year’s going rate, this will be close to a one-million-dollar road and resurfacing project.”
Additionally, Lehr requested a proposal to remove 15 trees from the city, which includes grinding and removing 19 stumps from trees previously removed by the department. Lehr said company HomerTree Care was the lowest bidder at $11,400–– the project is set to be completed by Dec. 19,
Modest fashion boutiques are making a home in Hickory Hills in the upcoming year. Alderman Patrick Purtill said residents should be on the lookout for Hareer Modest Fashion, located at 7717 W 95th Street, an international clothing brand from Turkey and Palestine for women’s clothing. Haft Atelier, an online clothing store, will also have a location at 7705 W. 96th Place.
