Orland Park, Countryside police track him down
A Lynwood man was arrested last week in connection with a carjacking in June at the Mercedes-Benz of Orland car dealership.
Marcus Turner, 23, was picked up in Markham on September 12 and subsequently charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking, two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
Police responded to a call on June 6 of a carjacking at the dealership, 8430 W. 159th St. The victim was a porter at the dealership who was preparing to load a black 2021 Mercedes-Benz onto a transport truck for delivery to an out-of-state dealership.
While in the process of loading the vehicle, the victim said he was approached by two individuals who brandished a firearm and demanded the keys to the car. The victim complied, and both suspects fled the scene with the stolen vehicle as well as the vehicle they had arrived in.
Orland Park detectives were able to track the stolen vehicle to a parking lot in South Holland, where it was found unoccupied.
Further investigation revealed that a similar crime had taken place earlier that day in Chicago Heights. Another related incident involving the same suspects occurred on June 7 in the City of Countryside.
Working in collaboration with detectives from the Countryside Police Department, Orland Park detectives identified Turner as a suspect.
On September 12, Orland Park and Countryside detectives located Turner in Markham and placed him into custody. At the time of his arrest, Turner was in possession of two firearms and had a revoked FOID card.
Turner made his initial court appearance on September 13 before the Honorable Judge Fairman, who ordered home confinement from 5 p.m. to 4 a.m. until Turner’s next court date on October 10. However, Turner was ordered detained at the Cook County Jail for a probation violation from a 2022 case.
