Marist enjoys getting its season going by hosting a tournament that is now in its 20th year.

They had a good time again this season, going unbeaten over five matches in two days to win the Marist RedHawks Invitational for the sixth consecutive time.

The RedHawks ended the tournament with a dominating 25-16, 25-14 victory over Lockport on March 23 in the championship match.

“We’ve got a little string going,” said Marist coach Jordan Vidovic. “We love it, we take pride in it and it really gets the season in full swing,”

Christian Teresi led Marist with 19 assists, eight kills, three blocks and three aces. Fellow junior Nathen Toth totaled seven kills and had four aces. Senior Luke Brannigan had five kills and 10 digs as the RedHawks (6-0) dominated.

Ethan Kuziela had 12 assists, fellow senior Jack Meador finished with four blocks and three kills, and junior Rory Donnelly added 12 digs for Marist.

Senior Evan Dziadkowiec had 13 assists for the Porters (5-1).

Teresi at setter/right side and Toth at outside play off of and motivate each other.

“It pushes us to be the best,” Toth said. “When he’s not playing his best I hold him accountable, and he does the same with me. We’re just really starting to connect and get that fast tempo.”

At one point in the second set, Teresi hit a kill so hard the ball bounced into the rafters

“It goes back and forth and our connection is really good,” Teresi said. “We know as a team that we have to hold each other accountable.”
