Back when he was breaking state and national passing records at Wheaton Warrenville South, Jon Beutjer proudly wore orange and black.
Beutjer, the prolific passer who led the Tigers to the 1998 Class 6A title, was back in Wheaton last week; however, this time he was wearing royal blue and gold as the head coach at Lyons.
The Lions provided their leader a happy homecoming as they defeated the Tigers 30-22 in non-conference action.
Lyons quarterback Dom Pisciotti finished the evening 11-of-20 passing for 152 yards and two touchdowns, covering 11 yards to Travis Stamm and 40 yards to Julian Padilla
“I didn’t want the game to be about me,” said Beutjer, a 1999 graduate of Wheaton Warrenville South. “My job at LT is to get our kids ready to play football.
“I want to create that type of culture at LT as a winning program that does things the right way.”
Lyons senior running back Danny Carroll carried the ball 27 times for 202 yards and scored on a 31-yard run.
“Danny had a really great night,” Beutjer said. “And our O-line did a great job for him.
“Danny’s a tough kid and he’s fast and explosive. He’s just a football player who runs hard with an attitude and great vision. He runs with an edge to him.”
