A missing 85-year-old woman who had been missing since September 1 was found Wednesday afternoon deceased.
Chicago police said Wednesday Francisca Renteria’s body was found after a massive search through the Garfield Ridge area. Sources said her body was found by Cook County Sheriff’s Police near an industrial building at 51st Street and Meade Avenue. No cause of death was released.
Renteria’s granddaughter, Karina Juarez, posted on Facebook around 5 p.m. Wednesday that she had been found.
“Hi everyone, we are sad to inform everyone my grandmother was found. She is no longer with us. I appreciate everyone for all their help finding her. My family really appreciates every single one of you. Please we are not answering any questions at this time.”
Another posting warned people from making unsolicited donations. “The family deeply appreciates the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time following the loss of their beloved Sr. Renteria. However, they want to clarify that they are not accepting any donations through Cash App, GoFundMe, or any other platform. If they decide to accept donations in the future, the granddaughter, Karina Juarez, will make an official announcement.”
Renteria went missing Sunday afternoon near West 57th Street and South Melvina Avenue in Garfield Ridge.
She had arrived in the area from Mexico three months ago and spoke no English. She had dementia and was not familiar with the Southwest Side and nearby suburbs.
A vigil for Renteria will be held Saturday, September 7, at 6:30 p.m. at Wentworth Park by 57th and Narragansett.
The family said in a Facebook posting that anyone that would like to come is more than welcome. “We appreciate all that everyone has done for us and would like for you all to join us in saying goodbye. Thank you all once again, and we hope to see you there.”
