Mother McAuley and St. Laurence had to travel to Aurora to face each other for the first time this season.
For the second consecutive season, the two area powers met in the Metea Valley/Oswego East Tournament championship, and for the second consecutive season, the Mighty Macs won, this time 25-21, 25-19, to repeat as tourney champions. McAuley defeated the Vikings in convincing fashion, 25-8, 25-9, in 2023.
The Macs’ Sydney Buchanan knocked down 15 kills. Kayla Birmingham had 15 kills for the Vikings.
McAuley entered the match ranked 23rd in the nation, according to maxpreps.com.
The Macs and Vikings will play agains Sept. 17 at Mother McAuley in a Girls Athletic Conference Association Red battle.
