A 26-year-old Orland man was arrested last week after he fired shots at a tow truck driver and took another person hostage at the auto repair shop where he worked, Chicago Ridge police said.
Mahyoub Dawabsha was taken into custody on Tuesday, August 20, by Chicago Ridge officers who responded to a call of shots fired at 1:21 p.m. at Signature Line Motorsports, an auto repair and auto customization shop located at 10005 S. Harlem Avenue.
Chicago Ridge police said in a release that an employee, Dawabsha, fired several rounds at a tow truck that was on the property, repossessing a vehicle.
Police said the frightened tow truck driver fled northbound on Harlem Avenue in the southbound lanes.
Dawabsha then allegedly took another victim from the repossession company into the repair shop at gunpoint.
Bridgeview police assisted Chicago Ridge police at the scene and gained entry to the business, where Dawabsha was taken into custody. A loaded firearm was found inside the repair shot.
Chicago Ridge Police Chief Jim Jarolimek said, “The suspect was an employee of the business.”
Regarding Dawabsha, who was released at his initial court hearing, Jarolimek said that during the hearing, Dawabsha said he heard an alarm that was set off by the repossession tow car service.
A 26-year-old Orland Park man has been reviewed by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and detectives to approve felony charges for aggravated kidnapping, armed robbery, two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and three counts of aggravated assault.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved felony charges against Dawabsha for Aggravated Kidnapping, Armed Robbery, 2 counts of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and 3 counts of Aggravated Assault.
