The Countryside Police Department is applying for two grants that are intended to help improve safety.
Police Chief Paul Klimek told the city council at its June 12 meeting that he is seeking a grant from the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority for tasers.
“The state is going to award tasers to police departments. Our contract is going to be expiring next year. … This would cover the first year. Every year after that would cost $23,000,” Klimek told the council.
Klimek is also seeking funds from the Illinois Attorney General’s Organized Retail Crime Grant Program for solar-powered security cameras.
“The surveillance trailer would have a solar-powered camera that would be placed (in parking lots) at shopping centers to combat retail crime,” Klimek told the council.
