Sandburg junior Jackson Canellis isn’t sure if he will be wearing a Cubs or White Sox jersey on Aug. 10 during a 12-mile run.
That decision will be up to those who donate to his cause.
Canellis, a volunteer at BEDS Plus, is organizing a unique 12-mile run from Wrigley Field to Guaranteed Rate Field. Patrons may donate money for either the White Sox or Cubs and the team that raises the most money will be represented by Canellis wearing that jersey during his run.
He is scheduled to start at Wrigley Field at 3 p.m. and run a route to Guaranteed Rate Field.
“I’ve been volunteering at BEDS Plus for the past four years,” Canellis said in a news release. “I put together this 12-mile run to help raise money for BEDS to make a difference in the lives of their clients and the community they serve.
“Your donation not only shows your support for your favorite Chicago baseball team, but it will also provide food, basic needs, and comfort to the 2,500 individuals facing food insecurity and homelessness whom BEDS helps and serves over 1,200 meals weekly in their shelter, food rescue program and transitional housing programs.”
BEDS Plus is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping individuals and families and is the leading provider in the Southwest Suburbs of Cook County supporting those struggling with housing insecurity. The organization provides emergency overnight shelter, supportive housing, and comprehensive support services to those facing homelessness.
Canellis has made and served more than 750 lunches and meals for the organization.
