I always looked forward to my neighbor’s when he’d whip up a batch in the summer. He told me how to do it; but alas, mine never tasted the same.

Last week we talked about Brabec’s Department Store and Bernie M. told us when she was little she thinks she remembered going with her Dad to a bowling alley on the second floor of a building right by Brabec’s and we were hoping someone would remember it and confirm that.

Brad S. tells us that indeed there was a bowling alley over there and it was called JB’s. It was on the north side of 51st Street just west of Damen. He tells us it had 10 lanes and he heard it was a really nice place to bowl. (Brad bowled at Gage Park.)

Brad spoke to Paul F. who used to work at JB’s. Paul confirmed that the alley was indeed above Brabec’s and he said the place was always clean with nicely waxed alleys. Thank you, Brad and Paul.

When we were visiting 1979 last week, we were remembering a shop that specialized in ladies’ apparel on 63rd Street, just west of Western at 2435 W. 63rd. No one came up with the name of the shop yet, so we will let it ride another week. The key to the answer would be the word ‘specialized’ I think?
