At the May 21 City Council meeting, Ald. Jeff Key shared exciting news about some of the summer activities coming to Palos Heights in the coming months.

Key said the Concerts in the Park, a series of family-friendly events featuring live music, food vendors, and fun activities for all ages, will kick off at 7 p.m. on June 6 at Memorial Park, 7607 W. College Drive. The series will run into August. The lineup includes performances by Mr. Myers, Fortunate Sons, Miss Angie & The Misters, and The Chicago Experience band.

Locals this summer can also have a tasty treat to look forward to at Tuesday night Ice Cream Socials. These events are not just about ice cream, but about fostering a sense of community and inclusivity.

Attendees are encouraged to set aside their Tuesday evenings at 6 p.m. to explore local parks and socialize with new or familiar faces as an “old-fashioned ice cream social.”

On June 18, the social will be held at Dream Big Park at 8140 Misty Meadows Dr. On July 16, the ice cream social will be held at Passarelli Park on 124th Street and Oak Park Avenue, and on August 13, it will be at Palmer Park on 123rd Street and 73rd Avenue. Look for the ice cream truck. Everyone is welcome.

Key urged residents to visit the city’s Park & Recreation website to see the full list of programs, including dance, cooking, and more. A diverse number of programs are offered to residents and non-residents. Please note that costs for nonresidents may be slightly higher to cover administrative and maintenance expenses.

Ald. Heather Begley announced that the pool parking lot would be closed on Wednesday, May 29, from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. for Seal-Rite asphalt coating. This maintenance work, which costs $9,500, is aimed at updating the lots and ensuring the longevity of community facilities. During this time, patrons can utilize the city hall parking and PBO Parking (located north of the baseball field) for their convenience.

The next Palos Heights City Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 4, at 7 p.m.
