Oak Lawn traveled to Ozinga Field in Crestwood to open the season against Crete-Monee at Ozinga Field in Crestwood, home of the Windy City Thunderbolts.
The Spartans climbed to a big lead early and never turned back as they went on to defeat the Warriors, 12-5.
Sophomore starting pitcher John Olejniczak pitched four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out five. Zack Ullrich pitched 1.2 scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts in the win.
Brett Gatch had the big day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI. First baseman Charlie Cizek had a team-high three hits while also driving in two runs. Kyle Bader had two triples.
