Chicago’s iconic Original Rainbow Cone has been evolving over the past few years.
First, it joined forces with the folks at Buono Beef and expanded its presence from its original location in Beverly to offer cones at Buono Beef locations and a few stand-alone stores as well as food trucks.
Last year, it opened its first south suburban store, a stand-alone location at 15711 S. Harlem Avenue in Orland Park that featured its first drive-thru. A second south suburban location is coming this summer to 19805 S. Crawford Ave. in Flossmoor. And the first Michigan store is set to open May 25 in New Buffalo, just in time for the tourist season.
Now, the company that started in 1926 is introducing four new flavors to its traditional offerings.
Orange Dream, Chocolate Obsession, Minty City and Cosmic Birthday will be joining the traditional flavors of Orange Sherbet, Pistachio, Palmer House, Strawberry and Chocolate.
“We’re not just adding to our menu, we’re crafting a new chapter in Rainbow Cone’s storied history,” Joe Buonavolanto III, said in a news release, executive vice president of The Buona Companies, the parent company of Rainbow Cone. “As we rapidly introduce the brand to new markets, we’re blending innovation with tradition.”
The four new flavors were created by Rainbow Cone’s culinary director Tony Scheri. Each new flavor can be served on a cake or waffle cone and offers a new twist to their classic ice cream flavors.
