Worth Village Clerk Bonnie Price said that even though application forms for village vehicle stickers were sent out to the post office last month residents were still waiting to receive those applications.
“We have been doing this for 15 years,” Price said during the Worth Village Board meeting May 7. “This has never happened before but I think we are going to have them printed here from now on.”
Price sent the information to the Bedford Park Post Office so the vehicle stickers application forms can be sent to residents throughout the village.
“When I did not hear anything on April 29, I wondered why we didn’t have them,” Price said.
Trustee Rich Dziedzic asked since they have still not received any mail regarding the vehicle sticker applications, should the information be sent out again?
While Price did not rule that out, the expense of doing so would be great. She has contacted the offices of U.S. Rep. Sean Casten (D-6th), state Sen. Bill Cunningham (D-18th), and U.S. Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth.
Price said that Casten had contacted her and provided a phone number to talk to a specific official at the Bedford Park Post Office. Price said that a representative from the post office got back to her. She is hoping that the mail will arrive soon.
However, the village clerk said she would be filing a complaint with the post office. Price said that in the future that residents will be encouraged to come to Village Hall to pick up the vehicle stickers and other forms.
Trustee Kevin Ryan, the head of the finance committee, said that payment for ratification of $1,385,837 to the North Palos Fire Protection District has also been approved.
Mayor Mary Werner reminded the board and residents that the “Cop on a Rooftop” will take place from 5 a.m. to noon Friday, May 17, at Dunkin’, 6707 W. 111th St. T-shirts, hats, pins, tumblers, and Harley Davidson raffle tickets will be on sale.
“We encourage everyone to drop by and make a nice donation,” Werner said.
Donations will go to the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois.
Trustee Brad Urban, chairman for the public works committee, said that the Worth Avenue construction project is 90% complete.
Hometown Hero Banners are still being accepted at the Village Hall. Residents should supply a photo and basic information about the veteran, Urban said.
A resolution was approved for maintenance under the Illinois Highway Code to appropriate $670,000 of the Motor Fuel Tax funds for the purpose of maintaining streets and highways through Dec. 31, 2024.
Dziedzic said that Worth Cruise Nights began on May 6 in the parking lot of the Water’s Edge Golf Course.
“We had at least 150 cars out there, and there could have been more than that,” Dziedzic said. “They were very busy.”
Dziedzic said that the Cruise Nights will continue through October.
Trustee Laura Packwood said that the repaving of the Water’s Edge Golf Course parking lot was delayed because of the recent heavy rains but should be completed soon.
The Ladies League began on May 6. Women’s golf day will take place Friday, June 7. This is the 25th anniversary of the Water’s Edge Golf Course, Packwood said.
Werner also mentioned that the Memorial Day Observance will take place on Sunday, May 19, at Veterans Memorial Park, 111th Street and Harlem Avenue. Refreshments will be offered at 10 a.m. and the service will begin at 11 a.m.
The Marrs-Meyer American Legion Auxiliary Unit 991 members remind residents to wear a poppy on Poppy Day, which is Thursday, May 23.
The Worth Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 143 will hold their annual golf outing on Saturday, June 22, at the Water’s Edge Golf Course, 7205 W. 111th St. Payment is required by June 15. Proceeds will support the FOP Lodge 143.

A business license was tentatively given to ABU Crispy, 6613 and 6615 W. 111th St. Owner Samah Saleh said this will be a sit-down restaurant.
Atlas Food Inc., 6925 W. 111th St., also received tentative approval. Owner Sana Faras said this will be a grocery store.
