Brother Rice is sending two boats to the IHSA state bass fishing tournament.
The Crusaders had first- and third-place finishes at the Des Plaines River Big Basin Marina Sectional on May 2. Sandwiched in between the Brother Rice boats was a group from Sandburg in second place.
The Crusaders’ No. 2 boat, consisting of freshman Thomas Hall and junior Quinn Hanson, hauled in 10 pounds, 12 ounces worth of bass.
Sandburg juniors Nathan Uldrych and Adrius Stankas led the Eagles’ No. 1 boat to the runner-up finish with 10 pounds, 7 ounces. Uldrych had the sectional’s catch of the day with a fish that weighed 3 pounds, 8 ounces.
Rice’s No. 1 boat of sophomores Joe Hall and Joe Judeh was third at 9 pounds, 1 ounce.
The state bass tournament will be held May 17-18 at Carlyle Lake in Carlyle.
This is both Brother Rice’s and Sandburg’s seventh trip to the state finals.
