Hickory Hills Police Chief Jason Bray welcomed Andre Showers as the city’s newest police officer during last week’s city council meeting.
Aldermen and the community at the April 11 meeting helped celebrate the induction of the Showers, 21.
He’s an Army veteran and a 2023 Cook County Correctional Camp graduate at Moraine Valley Community College. He’s working on his associate’s degree at Moraine Valley.
Showers police badge was pinned on by his fiancée Destiny, with whom he has a 10-month-old daughter, Skylar.
Officials also proclaimed May 4 as Arbor Day in the city, a day dedicated to recognizing the vital role of trees and plants in our community.
Alderman Henry Kman motioned to pay bills for the first half of April for $541,132.46.
In other action, RGD Illinois, a new hybrid grocery store, described as an Aldi store mixed with a Costco store, is looking to open a store at 8720 W. 87th St. The former home of USA Liquidators.
The company is well known in other parts of the world and operates stores in at least 13 European countries, including Spain, Germany, Serbia, and Estonia.
According to their website, “We are in the process of developing a chain of discount grocery stores across the US and Canada, our first locations are to be opened in the Chicago area.”
The next Hickory Hills city council meeting will be Thursday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m.
