Another day, another pair of award nominations for Minnesota State goaltender Alex Tracy.
Tracy, an Evergreen Park resident, was announced as one of four finalists by the Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA) for the Mike Richter Award given each year to the top goaltender in men’s NCAA Division I hockey. The winner will be announced at the NCAA Frozen Four in St. Louis on April 11.
In addition, Tracy, who prepped at Mount Carmel, has been named a 2025 Hobey Baker Memorial Award Top Ten Finalist. The Hobey Baker Memorial Award goes to the top player in men’s college hockey. Tracy is the second Maverick in two seasons to be included as a Top 10 Finalist.
At the beginning, Tracy was one of over 90 collegiate men’s hockey players representing 64 NCAA Division I schools nominated for the Hobey Baker Award.
Along the way this season, Tracy has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association’s (CCHA) Goaltender of the Year, the CCHA Player of the Year, the CCHA Student-Athlete of the Year, a five-time CCHA Goaltender of the Week, a two-time CCHA Goaltender of the Month and a two-time HCA National Goaltender of the Month.
In 37 games this season, Tracy has a record of 26-8-3 with five shutouts. He has a goals-against average of 1.43 and a save percentage of .945 while making 918 saves.
“Tracy’s been fantastic,” Minnesota State coach Luke Strand said in a video press conference. “We’ll keep counting on a guy who’s been a rock and pillar for us all year long.
“I’ll take Tracy in my foxhole every day of the week…He’s a studier and he wants to see what the other team is doing and where their chances are coming from and that type of thing. His prep and his routine (are) so high-end.”
● Governors State senior Tyrell Isom was named to the All-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Honorable Mention team in men’s basketball for the second straight season.
Isom, who prepped at Bogan, was second on the Jaguars in scoring (12.4 ppg) and rebounding (3.7 rpg) this season. The 6-foot-5 forward also added three assists per game.
● Governors State’s Cencere McDaniel (Marist) was named to the All-CCAC Second Team in women’s basketball. She averaged 12.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists while hitting a team-best 49 3-pointers.
Joining McDaniel on the All-CCAC Second Team was St. Francis’ Le’Lani Harris (Marist). The Oak Lawn resident was the Saints’ top scorer at 15.5 ppg and also grabbed 5.5 rebounds per game.
