Police calls have gone up by almost four figures in Manteno during a four-year span.
According to data released by Manteno Police Chief Alan Swinford, there were 9,326 calls for service in 2024, almost 1,000 more than the 8,333 calls in 2021.
That figure increased slightly to 8,488 in 2022 and shot up to 9,206 in 2023.
Swinford is using data from the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Department via Tyler New World software and the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Breaking down 2024, there were 15,508 total police incidents.
The most calls for service came on Mondays between 3-5 p.m., with 97-107 calls during the year in each of the hours during that time frame. Thursdays at 5 p.m. also totaled 97-107 calls during the year.
There were 1,105 traffic stops, 362 ‘911’ calls, and 322 suspicious person/situation/vehicle incidents.
There were 1,009 case reports created, slightly down from the 1,014 created in 2023. Leading the pack were 106 disorderly conduct offenses, 92 domestic disputes, 75 civil cases, 53 assists for the Manteno Fire Department, and 52 hospitalization cases.
On the streets, there were 1,252 citations written in which 383 were written warnings.
The police made 144 total arrests, including 37 for having a suspended or revoked driver’s license, 31 warrants, and 28 for domestic battery.
There were 110 whites arrested, 25 Black, and nine Hispanics arrested. There were 112 males and 32 females who were arrested in 2024. There was one juvenile arrest for reckless driving.
There were 95 crash reports taken, and 81 met Illinois Department of Transportation Reporting Standards. There were 27 reported injuries and no fatalities.
