Manny Eliades has always considered himself a coffee connoisseur.
“I’ve always been a coffee lover,” said Eliades, of Skokie. “My wife and I travel to Michigan a lot, and it was there we discovered Biggby Coffee. We knew immediately that we wanted to bring it to Illinois.”
Biggby Coffee, an American coffeehouse franchise based in Lansing, Michigan, was founded in 1995 by Bob Fish and Mary Roszel as Beaner’s Coffee. The company changed its name to Biggby Coffee in 2007 and has since expanded to more than 390 locations across 13 states.

Eliades’ dream came true when he and his wife, Dana, opened their own Biggby Coffee at 10300 S. Harlem Ave. in Palos Hills.
The shop is inside a Shell gas station owned by his father-in-law, Nicholas Kontos.
“We always knew we needed something more here,” Eliades said. “Biggby Coffee brings something new to the area and gives our customers another coffee option besides Dunkin and Starbucks.”
A grand opening celebration was held Tuesday, March 18. Eliades was joined by family, including his two sons, Teddy, 4, and Nikko, 2.
“We are really excited to be here and to be able to provide great service to the Palos Hills community,” he said.
Biggby Coffee has locations in Michigan, Florida, Kentucky, Illinois, Ohio, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Idaho and Indiana. The Palos Hills store is the fourth Biggby Coffee in Illinois.
Each drink is made from scratch by skilled baristas with ingredients selected for coffee enthusiasts, Eliades said.
Allison White, a Palos Hills resident, said she already has a favorite order.
“The Mint Mocha Latte is my go-to,” she said while waiting in line Tuesday morning.
Marjorie Ramierz, a longtime Biggby Coffee fan, was thrilled about the opening.
“This is my favorite coffee, and I was so disappointed when the location near my home closed,” said Ramierz, of Chicago, referring to a former franchise at 95th Street and Kedzie Avenue. “When I saw this location was opening, I was so excited. To me, it’s definitely worth the drive.”
Biggby Coffee is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
