Darnell Stewart, 18, of the 7500 block of South Green Street in Chicago, was arrested following a traffic stop at 4:27 p.m. on Feb. 27 in the 6100 block of South Western Avenue, according to police.
Stewart was charged with unlicensed possession of a weapon under 21 after officers found a handgun in his car, police said. The firearm’s serial number was defaced, leading to an additional charge, along with possession of a high-capacity magazine with metal-piercing bullets.
He was also charged with armed violence, driving with a suspended license, suspended registration, failure to carry a license, and illegal possession of between 100 and 500 grams of cannabis, police said.
