The University of Dubuque’s Otis Patterson was chosen the American Rivers Conference Men’s Indoor Field Performer of the Week for Feb. 17.
The graduate student from Richards won three events at the Wisconsin-Platteville Invitational on Feb. 15.
Patterson won the high jump with an effort of 2.00 meters (6 feet, 6,75 inches), which is the second-highest mark in the conference this season.
He also took first in the long jump at 6.80 meters (22-3.75).
Patterson’s final victory of the meet was in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.26 seconds. That’s the second-fastest in the league this season.
● North Park’s Rico Powell has been chosen the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin’s Student-Athlete of the Week in men’s basketball for Jan. 27.
The 6-foot-2 senior guard averaged 22.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and three steals as the Vikings posted two road victories. Powell shot 54 percent (15 of 28) from the field and was nine of 10 from the free-throw line.
● Three local student-athletes were chosen to the American Rivers Conference’s All-Academic Team for the Fall 2024 semester.
To be eligible, athletes must be at least a sophomore (with at least one year in residence) and attain a grade-point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale.
Lauded were Loras football player Henry Ivers from Brother Rice and Dubuque soccer players Zach Floss and Giorgos Valliantos, both of whom are Sandburg graduates.
Floss, a senior defender, finished the 2024 season with three goals and four assists for 10 points in 18 games. Valliantos, a senior midfielder, had two assists in 18 games.
Ivers, a sophomore linebacker, had 64 tackles with nine tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, one quarterback hurry and one fumble recovery in 10 games.
