April showers bring May flowers. They will be patient. But it sure has been a rainy start to the month of April.

For those of you who take a shortcut walk to the Pulaski Orange line via the Dollar Tree parking lot on Pulaski, get ready! Your eyes will be surprised with artwork. There is going to be a mural along side the wall by your walk.

I learned this information at our CAPS Beat 822/824 meeting on April 2. Thank you to the police officers, Alderman Silvana Tabares and Alderman Raymond Lopez for giving up your time to inform the neighbors of what is going on in the community. I urge the residents to attend because you do receive a plethora of information.

A primary concern at this meeting was the situation of Pulaski, with the recent tragic death of yet another neighbor. Both the aldermen and the police are working on a solution to slow down the drag racers and speeders. What is needed is a combined effort of all officials in office to stop this recklessness.

Also, both aldermen are working to keep the ShotSpotters in our neighborhoods. The contract for the shot spotters runs for an additional seven months.

I also learned about something very valuable and lifesaving: Smart 911.

In our home we got rid of our landline about a year ago since we both have cell phones. (Why pay for an additional phone?) But when calling 911 on a landline, the dispatcher knows exactly where you are. On a cellphone, not necessarily–hence Smart 911. The Smart 911 profile can provide you and your family, along with pets, an added security in the event of an emergency.

You can create an account, which is said to be completely confidential, at Smart911.com. Through this account you can list home details, medical information and even pet information. It’s basically preparing for an emergency, hopefully that will never happen, but it’s best to be prepared. When first responders do arrive, they will be prepared with your information.

I’m at that age where this year is a big one for 50th anniversaries from grade school. My good friends at St. Mary Star of the Sea have definite plans for June 8. There will be a Mass at 5 p.m. Following the Mass a pizza party will be held at Duggan Hall, 6435 S. Kilbourn. The fee is $20 for the pizza. Feel free to bring a dish and BYOB. Payment must be received before the party via Venmo or check.

My St. Turibius gang is also working on a reunion party. We are just ironing out the details for now.

Happy Birthday wishes go to local artist Penny Burns, Dr. Coler, Ray Hanania and Pat Charleston.
